R.I.P. NFUOh Flakies

"We have got confirmation from Nfu Oh headquarter that Opal Glitter Series (Flakies #37-60) has been discontinued. The current series will be replace by a new set of colors. Nfu Oh has yet to confirm the replacement color or if any current color will remain in the future product line. We will keep everyone updated as soon as we can." - (http://gothampolish.blogspot.co.nz/2013/04/heres-why-you-need-to-stop-what-youre.html)

This doesn't mean it's the end! They may just be updating the chemicals or pigments they use. I have gathered a few of my favourite NFU polishes to show you. But if you are afraid to miss out on these polishes, might be best to see where you can buy them from!

NFUOh 073

NFUOh not only does really cool flakies, but they actually do some really nice other finishes too.

I picked out these three shades to try NFUOh 073 over:
Top to bottom: Essie Marshmallow, OPI Curry Up Don't Be Late and I have a feeling it's China Glaze Platinum Silver.

At first I just tried one coat (obviously) to see how much effect 073 had on the polishes. The frost and pearl finishes didn't let you see much of 073, I think a creme, sheer or jelly is more friendly for this kind of thing.

Here we go on to two coats! 073 over Essie Marshmallow and naked nail were turning out to be my favourites. Although I really loved 073 by itself, I would probably never wear it that way.

The formula of 073 is great, smooth and thin. The only iffy NFUOh formulas I have experienced have been from the more sheer, french colours.

Please enlarge the photos to see the detail! It really is a pretty polish, looks great in all lighting situations too.

Now I don't really know where to buy these in New Zealand but there is a site called FabulouStreet.com that ships internationally. USA residents can even get free shipping.

Nail Art: The Joys of Thinner

It only just dawned on me why I haven't been doing as much nail art these days, it's because all of my glittery polishes are so thick! Luckily mum had a bottle of thinner on hand.

I was reunited with an old flame, Sinful Nail Junkie. To think that I even considered getting rid of it because I used it no longer makes me want to,
(ノಥ益ಥ)ノ︵ ┻━┻

For this manicure I used Color Club Ready to Royal as the deep purple base, a small and short layer of NFUOh 050 followed by a sparse coat of Sinful Nail Junkie, topped with another thin coat of NFUOh 050.

Just a little bit more on Sinful Nail Junkie, here is a different look I did with it for the new year of 2010:

And here is a franken with it in it as well as Sinful UFO (orange version of NJ):

I hope you have a great week!

NFUOh 52 over OPI DS Fantasy

After trying 52 over Fantasy, I had to wear it as a full manicure. So here it is!

I only wore one coat of 52 over one coat of Fantasy. It was one of those manicures where everything just worked and looked awesome in the end!

I love how you can see the sparkles of Fantasy in the sunlight.

You are probably sick and tired of NFUOh posts by now! I do have a few more lined up, but won't be posting just yet :)

NFUOh 052

Today I have NFUOh's 052 to show you. 052 looks quite navy in the bottle but it's actually quite purpley, like 051. All you need is a blue to layer it over and you can get the same results as how it looks in the bottle.

I decided to layer 052 over bare nail, OPI DS Fantasy, Australis Blue Tiger and Australis Limited Edition 2.

052 went on a little bit uneven over the lime but I did love it over the two blues. Fantasy especially.

We're on two coats here. As you can see 052 is a little bit sheer by itself but can be layered up to be worn alone. Fantasy brings out the green more, Blue Tiger brings out the light blue and Limited Edition 2 the purple side of 052.

Here we get to see the green, blue and purple duochrome a little bit. It's definitely stronger in person, I wasn't able to capture it nicely with my camera.

052 is my most favourite NFUOh polish along with 050. As soon as I did that first swipe over Fantasy, I knew 052 was the one. The only navy with blue and green flakies I will ever need.

NFUOh 046

Now I have NFUOh's 046 to show you. 046 is a red based flakie with orange flakies and shimmer that turn gold. 046's base is quite thick and overpowering. This is one you could wear by itself at two coats but in return quite a subtle flakie effect.

I've layered NFUOh 046 over bare nail, China Glaze Dress to Kill, Color Club Wham! Pow! and Color Club I Always Get My Man-darin.

046 deceived me! I assumed it was a yellow toned red just from how it looks in the bottle, but by itself it is much bluer toned than when it's layered. I really liked 046 over Wham! Pow! as it gave quite a punch. Dress to Kill gave the perfect result of how 046 looks in the bottle.

046 kind of dries a little bit matte, so you need a topcoat over it to see it's pretty flakies and shimmer.

NFUOh 050

Next up I have NFUOh's 050 to show you. 050 is an almost clear purple base with blue and green flakies. If you start to layer 050 up the purple base slowly builds up on some colours but doesn't alter others.

Here I have one coat layered over bare nail, Makeup Store Young, OPI Mermaid Tears and Color Club Secret Rendezvous. I chose these three colours because these are the shades that 050 reflects; green, blue and purple.

I think 050 over these pastels looks really sweet and delicate.

We've got two coats of 050 now. Of course you can do as many layers as you like with 050, the flakies just get more and more intense and you start to lose the base colour more.

I really like how these flakies show variation in colour and you get something different at every angle.

050 is my favourite NFUOh, right beside 052.

Here are a couple of other times of when I've used NFUOh 050 in a manicure:
